Construction Jobs Alberta

One of the most successful industries in Alberta, Canada today is the construction business. With a thriving industry, there comes a need for skilled tradespeople in the field. Here are some examples of construction job positions in Alberta:

Bricklayers

Although the primary duty of bricklayers is to literally lay bricks, the materials used by bricklayers are not limited to bricks. In fact, bricklayers also use blocks, panels, stones, and tiles when they construct or repair structures. The structures constructed or repaired by bricklayers are arches, chimneys, fireplaces, or walls. Other manual duties performed by bricklayers include the installation of fire bricks and castable materials in furnaces and the installation of acid bricks and acid tiles in pulp mills.

Carpenters

In a group of tradespeople in a construction site, the carpenters are probably the easiest to spot; they usually have a hammer in hand. Carpenters are responsible for the construction of all wooden parts in a structure. They measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join all wooden materials to build foundations, erect walls, install doors, or construct stairs. The duties of carpenters, however, are not limited to constructing and joining wooden materials; carpenters also carry out reparation and renovation functions.

Welders

If carpenters are the masters of wood, then the welders are the masters of metals. Welders work with metals almost the same way carpenters work with wood; they measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join metals to form structures. The equipment used and the processes performed, however, are different. Carpenters cut wood using hand-saws and join them by hammering nails. Welders, on the other hand, cut metals using plasma torches and join them by operating welding power supplies.
