Naturally, many job opportunities are there to explore, with companies making their profits from the abundant source of gas and petroleum. Here are just a few of the job positions open in oil rigs in Alberta.

Roustabout

A roustabout is someone who works in an oil drill doing a variety of tasks that do not require much skill. This can be the starting position for someone who wants to make a career out of oil rigging. After gaining experience, a roustabout can move on to become a roughneck.

Roughneck

Roughnecks are promoted versions of roustabouts but are still people in the lower echelons of an oil rig. Like roustabouts, roughnecks perform a variety of duties, from making coffee to helping in the drilling.

Motorhand

A motorhand is someone who is in charge of all the equipment used in drilling. Aside from checking engines, a motorhand should be able to do minor repairs on site to avoid backlogs in production.

Derrickhand

A derrickhand makes sure that the drill goes in smoothly by providing lubrication or special oil-enforced mud.

Driller

The driller takes control of the main drilling equipment. Drillers should have extensive experience with handling drill equipment.

Rig Manager

The rig manager is the head of all the crews involved in oil rigging. A rig manager visits crews on site to supervise production.
