Alberta Logging Jobs

One of Alberta's treasures is its forests. Aside from the variety of animal and plant species living here, the trees in Alberta forests have helped boost the province's economy. Since excessive logging depletes forest reserves, the government has put certain restrictions on logging practices in the area. Despite these measures, logging is still a profitable venture in Alberta, creating many opportunities for the job seeker. Here's a look on various job positions inn the logging industry:

Tree fallers, choke setters, and log sorters.

Logging crews usually have individuals employed as tree-fallers who are tasked to cut down the trees using either hand-held chain saws or other machines. Working with tree-fallers are men in choke-setter jobs. Choke-setters fasten the chokes or steel chains on fallen trees and hook these up to tractors or cables that drag the timber to the landing area for classification. Log sorters would then classify timber according to species, ownership, and size.

Logging equipment operators

People employed as logging equipment operators supervise the use of tree harvesters to shear off the trees' limbs and cut the trunk into the desired length or size. Logging equipment operators also drive tractor trucks and other vehicles to transport the timber to the landing area.

Log graders and inspectors

At the landing area, the timber and logs harvested are then screened by people in log grader or inspector jobs. These people check for the quality of logs, measure sizes, and determine the type of timber to assess its market value. They keep records of all these and even make inventories for the management of the logging company.
