Agriculture Jobs in Alberta

Aside from oil and natural fuels, the province of Alberta has soil rich enough to propagate a thriving economy based on its agriculture. The boreal forests may have yielded various loads of coal but timber is the greatest produce that has been cultivated by mother nature herself. Man on the other hand, has been able to reap not only what has been sown naturally, but also those that are products of his own labour. Here are just a few of the agricultural products that Alberta can be proud of.

Grains

Farming in the early years of Alberta saw fertile soil being utilized for grain farming and production. Wheat and other cereals were serious crops that contributed much to the economy. Currently, the grain industry is a steady venture, where seasonal jobs during harvest and planting can sometimes be found in.

Canola

The oil industry in Alberta is a thriving success. However, aside from the tar sands and the oil wells scattered throughout different locations in the province, a different kind of oil is being “harvested” in fertile farmlands. Canola is a type of cooking oil extracted from the canola plants raised in farmlands around Red Deer and Central Alberta. Jobs can also be found in this “oil harvesting” industry.

Livestock

Raising livestock is a profitable venture to get into in Alberta. Alberta accounts for much of the cattle industry in Canada, with a population of almost three million cows are located in the province. Livestock farmers in Alberta also raise bison or plains buffalo, the meat of which is prized by the local consumer market. Sheep is also raised in the plains of Alberta for the wool and the mutton as well.
